To get your listing onto this website, you MUST use either the contact form, or send an email to the address set up specifically for the listings. Art Market Gallery of Knoxville is pleased to present an exhibit of recent works by Lil Clinard of Loudon and Elaine Fronczek of Knoxville.
Award-winning watercolor and acrylic painter Lil Clinard strives to express her response to the natural world through brush stroke, texture, color, light and composition rather than the control of photographic detail. A member of several watercolor societies and art guilds, her work is in corporate and private collections throughout the southeast.
Fiber artist Elaine Fronczek fashions clothing and home décor items from unique fabrics that she creates through a process called wet felting, a method that dates back over 8000 years that she often combines with the more modern technique of needle felting. Her creations are inspired by the works of mid-century and contemporary artists and fabric designers.
A First Friday Reception for the exhibit is planned for November 4 from 5:30-9 pm with complimentary refreshments and live music.

Bliss Home is excited to feature Briena Harmening for November First Friday. Please join us for a reception at Bliss Home, 29 Market Square, from 6-9p.m., Friday November 4.
Harmening will show her beautiful artwork collection, inspired by confinement, made of beautiful fabric pieces, combining screen-printing, painting and sewing. Harmening resides and works in Knoxville, Tennessee. She is a 2010 MFA graduate from the University of Tennessee, a member of 17th Street Studios and Work Horse Artist Collective. By utilizing mediums such as painting, sculpture, and video performance her work addresses identity and autobiography. She currently teaches Introductory, Advanced, and IB Art at West High School.

“Bleeding Kansas” A Brown Bag Lecture by Ed Bearrs – Wednesday, November 9 at noon
National Park Service Chief Historian Emeritus Ed Bearrs will discuss the strong pro- and anti-slavery divisions that formed around Kansas’s admission into the Union as a free or slave state. The Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 led to a rush of new residents for Kansas, as citizens from pro-slavery Missouri and abolitionists from New England and other free states flooded Kansas to influence the decision, among them the fiery abolitionist John Brown and his five sons. Bearrs will emphasize the Kansas experience in the context of events leading to the Civil War and tell the dramatic stories of the individuals on both sides caught up in the melee.
The Brown Bag Lecture series is a program of the East Tennessee Historical Society and is sponsored by 21st Mortgage. The lecture is free and open to the public. Guests are invited to bring a lunch. Drinks will be available.

The East Tennessee Woodworkers Guild and the Arts & Culture Alliance present the 16th Master Woodworkers Show, November 4-6, at the Emporium Center. This biennial juried show highlights the handcrafted works of 35 craftspeople and artists of East Tennessee and the surrounding region and features many types of woodwork, from traditional to whimsical, including fine furniture, cabinetry, turning, sculpture and marquetry. The Emporium gallery provides an ideal environment in which to view the work and meet the artists.
The Show hours are: Friday, November 4, 5:00-9:00 PM; Saturday, November 5, 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM; and Sunday, November 6, 12:00-5:00 PM. Admission is free. A public reception takes place on Friday, November 4, from 5:00-9:00 PM as part of First Friday activities in downtown Knoxville.
Among the participants in this year’s show are the following notable artisans:Craig Nutt, Brian Boggs, and Curtis Buchanan. The 16th Master Woodworkers Show will be displayed at the Emporium Center, 100 S. Gay Street (corner of Gay/Jackson) in downtown Knoxville.

Lifted Lab, a creative collective with ties across the nation, has teamed with Bearden Middle School art students to present an art show reflecting cultural diversity. Students were given the assignment to create a mask by cutting and layering colored paper, using inspiration of different lifestyles.
“These funky masks reflect various cultures all over the world. This is because we learned in class that many different cultures all over the world have masks of some sort. Bearden Middle School has one of the most diverse student populations in East Tennessee, so perhaps the variety of influences in the masks reflects this.”
For November’s First Friday, Lifted Lab will host an art show at Swagger in Market Square with a selection of the students’ masks. This art opening will be accompanied by a live DJ and refreshments. This event will give students the experience of exhibiting their work just as established artists do, interacting with their local community, and celebrating their creativity. The art will remain on display until December 1, 2011.

Attention classic movie fans, literary buffs, and history buffs!
The Knox County Library, McClung Historical Collection, and the Tennessee Archive of Moving Image and Sound are partnering up to celebrate the library’s 125th anniversary! The First Friday, November 4rth event will feature a tour of “underground Knoxville”, a short documentary about the history of the Knoxville library, rare film footage from Knoxville’s past, and a film screening of the 1963 Paramount feature ALL THE WAY HOME, based on James Agee’s novel “A Death in the Family”. All the Way Home was filmed on-location in and around Knoxville, and premiered at the Tennessee Theatre in 1963.

6:30 pm: “Underground Knoxville” Tours
The screening venue will be held within a building situated in what has been described as “underground Knoxville”. Visitors are welcome to take a tour along the original underground sidewalk, and perhaps view portions of buildings long ago hidden from view when the 100 block of Gay Street was raised during the early part of the 20th century.
Screening times:
7 pm: Vintage footage of the 100 block of Gay Street, 1930s-1950s (Harold’s Deli, WNOX performers, etc)
7:30 pm: Short documentary video on the history of the Knox County Library
7:45 pm: Rare archival newsfilm and home movie footage depicting behind the scenes Knoxville location shooting for ALL THE WAY HOME in Fort Sanders, and the 1963 premier of the film at the Tennessee Theater.
8:00 pm: 16mm screening of the 1963 Paramount Feature ALL THE WAY HOME, based on James Agee’s Pulitzer prize winning novel “A Death in the Family”.
